ST. MARTIN’S LANTERN & GIVING WEEKEND
November 7 & 8 | Woolly Yak Ranch & Winery

Saturday: 11 AM–7 PM
Sunday: 11 AM–6 PM
Free admission and parking.

One cloak. Two people kept warm.

While serving as a Roman soldier in what is now France, Martin came upon a man shivering on a bitterly cold day. He cut his cloak in half and shared it with him—a simple act of kindness remembered centuries later.

Celebrated on November 11, St. Martin’s Day brings traditions of glowing lanterns, shared treats, autumn food, and new wine to communities across Europe.

At its heart is a lesson for all ages: you don’t have to have a lot to share a little warmth.

Join us November 7 & 8 for our own celebration of kindness, sharing, and time together. In keeping with the tradition of celebrating new wine, we’ll be introducing a new wine for this event!

For families, friends, couples, and anyone coming on their own—make a lantern, enjoy lunch, gather for stories, and walk with us at twilight. Stay awhile, make a day of it, or return with your lantern for the evening celebration!

ACTIVITY SCHEDULE — BOTH DAYS

All day — St. Martin’s Goose Scavenger Hunt & giving station

11 AM–1 PM — Complimentary lantern making

2–2:30 PM — Walnut Grove Rattle parade, followed by sharing cookies

2:30–2:45 PM — St. Martin’s New Wine Toast

SHARE SOME WARMTH

Guests are invited to bring new or gently used hats, gloves, mittens, or coats in sizes from infant through adult to help keep local children and families warm. Place your donations in our collection box. Giving is optional; everyone is welcome.

ST. MARTIN’S GOOSE SCAVENGER HUNT

Legend says Martin once hid among a flock of geese—but their honking gave him away. Now our geese are hiding around the farm! Pick up a hunt sheet and see how many wooden and pictured geese you can spot throughout the day.

COMPLIMENTARY LANTERN MAKING

Lantern making is open to all ages from 11 AM–1 PM and 3:30–5 PM. Decorate a lantern on your own or together with family and friends.

One hundred kits are available each day, with 50 reserved for each session, first come, first served. Limit one lantern per person and two per household.

Each kit includes a lantern container, decorating supplies, a handle, and a battery-powered light. Lights will be handed out before the evening walk, or you may collect yours before leaving if you’re heading home earlier. You’re welcome to return with your lantern for the evening walk!

WALNUT GROVE RATTLE PARADE & SHARING COOKIES | 2–2:30 PM

All ages are welcome to join a short, cheerful procession. We’ll supply the noisemakers, then finish with sharing cookies—one to enjoy and one to give to someone else.

ST. MARTIN’S NEW WINE TOAST | 2:30–2:45 PM

Celebrating new wine is a cherished St. Martin’s Day tradition in parts of Europe. Join Cathy and Chris for a brief introduction to our newest release, purchase a glass, and raise a toast to kindness, good company, and the season.

EVENING PARADE & TWILIGHT LANTERN WALK | STARTING AT 5:15 PM

Join us for a little cheerful noise with our Walnut Grove Rattle parade! We’ll supply the noisemakers, then collect them and hand out the lights for everyone’s lanterns.

At 5:30 PM, we’ll begin our twilight lantern walk. We’ll lead the way in a red cloak in honor of St. Martin—the soldier who shared half his cloak with someone in need.

Carry your glowing lantern as we walk quietly past the sheep, pigs, and yaks while evening settles over the farm. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re visiting on your own, with a partner, or with family and friends. You may also bring your own battery-lit lantern.

We’ll finish by sharing cookies—one to enjoy and one to give to someone else!

SHARING COOKIES

Cookies are available for all ages, while supplies last. Limit two cookies per person and four per household at each session.

COME HUNGRY & STAY AWHILE

Our food truck will feature hearty European-inspired favorites from countries that celebrate St. Martin’s Day—perfect for a crisp fall afternoon. Enjoy lunch or an early dinner, and discover our newest wine.

Between activities, enjoy time to play, visit the animals, and wander the farm.
